ROCKY ROAD RIDERS ATV POKER RALLY

 The Mudhogg Poker Run 1987

The Rocky Road Riders always started their Rallies in the parking lot near the IGA and the Liquor store. It was said at one time all the off road trails in Porters Lake led to the liquor store. This is no longer the case as I’ve heard most everyone up that way doesn’t drink anymore, but I’ve also heard they don’t drink any less.

We would fill up with gas at Rollies gas station while others would be registering. Richard (All Terrain Charley) and his wife Diane would register the riders.  Charley had 3 firm rules disqualifying you from entering the rally as a registered participant.  Rule #1 was if you showed up at 9am to register with a beer in your hand you were not allowed to participate in the ATV Rally.  Rule #2 if you had been up all night drinking you were not allowed to participate in the ATV Rally and Rule #3 if you couldn’t find your ATV you were not allowed to participate in the ATV Rally.

All the Rallys were held no matter what the weather turned out to be - rain, snow or blizzard. It was hard work getting everything organized and we didn’t believe in rain dates.

I’d still say this area was one of the most scenic and offered some of the best trails in all Nova Scotia.

Relaxing at the last checkpoint and the Rally prize winners gathered for a group photo.

In all the years we ran ATV Rallies, Charlie Keating was always most co-operative in letting us use his mall parking lot for unloading our ATV’s and parking our vehicles.
