4X4 ATV RIDING TIPS
Riding a big ATV
is different than riding a sport or utility 2-wheel drive. These monsters have
far more torque and you usually can’t pop the front ends wheelie-style or do power
slides without getting into trouble.
ATV
TIRES – By running 4 to 5
pounds of air pressure in all your tires, you will get fewer punctures, beat up
your rims less and the steering will have a lighter feel to it.
TOWING – Always go slow as it is possible to
jackknife.
MUDCROSSING – Don’t drive into it real fast. Keep your
momentum up and try not to stop. Shift your weight from side to side and rock
the ATV. Once the ATV stops, don’t keep digging yourself in deeper, either
winch yourself out or pick up both ends one end at a time and move it out of
the rut. If you’re still stuck after doing the last step try shoving some wood
or anything else you may have handy under the wheels (think twice about using
your jacket). Get off of the ATV, stand to the side – work the throttle and get
some of your buddies to rock and roll the ATV. Watch yourself when it hooks up
as it just might do anything.
